[It's sunset before Emil makes it back to town... while he was lucky enough not to land in the lake after going through the portal, he ended up in the mountains instead, and it's taken him almost two days to get back. He's exhausted, wet, freezing cold, and most importantly, he's not back in his world. The portal also separated him from Sial, so he's worried about what happened to his chimera companion as well.

He looks about as dejected as he feels right now; every so often he'll stumble over something and fall to his knees before picking himself up and continuing to trudge on.]

[She doesn't seem to be a threat, but he doesn't really want to cry in front of a total stranger either. In fact, he's trying not to cry in front of anyone right now, no matter how much he might want to.]

[Understandable. If she were in his shoes, she'd probably feel the same way right about now. ... Which makes her realize that he probably would prefer being left alone. But she can't just walk away now, because that'd look weird.

So instead, she'll try to give him a look that's trying to ask whether he's okay or not. A concerned look. Yes.]

[He's in one piece physically, which counts for something, right? Mentally, he's pretty much on the verge of a hysterical breakdown, but he doesn't want anyone to know that. So he'll try to keep his face as neutral as possible as he gives her a slight nod. Whether or not she'll be able to see through it, well...]

[... Well, okay. She's sort of skeptical about whether he's truly okay, (seeing as she heard him sniffling) but she'll give him the benefit of the doubt. After all, Noel wouldn't want to pester a complete stranger over how they were feeling. It's really none of her business, right?

Then again, it looks like Emil just went through hell. Or rather, snow hell. Er.

So she'll give him a small, hesitant nod before giving him her hand. Need some help getting up, at least?]

[After a moment of hesitating, he'll accept the hand and try to stand. Trekking down out of the mountains has really worn him out, and as a result his legs feel rather like Jello at the moment... which isn't very conducive to standing or walking. All of the snow on the ground didn't help either. At least it wasn't actively snowing, though the wind wasn't much better. Pity anyone who ended up in the lake in this weather.]

[Indeed. :c Wonder how many got sick from that. But yes. Noel didn't know exactly where Emil came from, so the fact that he seems to have trouble standing is kind of distressing. What, did someone hurt him?

She'll be watching to make sure he doesn't fall over again or anything for now. ... Still need any help, Emil?]

[Fortunately he manages to make it to his feet, though he's a bit shaky as he stands. He'll give her a slight nod in gratitude for her concern, however.

Hmm, she hasn't said anything to him at all. Is she unable to speak as well? He'll point at his throat and tilt his head in a questioning fashion to ask.]

[At first, she's a little confused when he pointed to his throat, so it takes her a few seconds to register what he was asking about - her voice. W-well, she didn't want to start spouting that 'kyu' stuff, so she just shook her head at him.

... Wait. He wasn't speaking either. Dot dot dawt. Noel pointed at him; can you not speak either, Emil?]

[He nods, holding up his hands to show that he doesn't have his journal with him either. Next he'll draw a circle in the air with his finger to represent the portal, then move his finger forward as if asking if she went through it.]

--OH! The portal, right? She'll nod at Emil. This is all suddenly beginning to make more and more sense.]

[Emil is also starting to put two and two together as well... his next "question" involves pretending to write in a journal. Where's your journal?]

[Writing... journal? Oh. Journal. She'll point in the direction of the fourth community housing building; it's in her room. ... Oh, but wait. She points at Emil and then does the same gesture. Did you want to write something? Because now Noel is waving her right hand and shaking her head; that might be a bad idea. Yeah.

... Does that make any sense to you, Emil?]

[Not... really? Did something happen to your journal too? That's about all he's getting out of that; maybe there's something wrong with it as well? Well, not like it really matters, as neither one of them has their journals to write in at the moment anyway.

... wait, speaking of missing, he still doesn't know where Sial is. Now he's going to start trying to figure out how to mime a chimera. Which... probably looks rather odd.]

[Y-yeah... yeah, it does. Noel is going to stare at you for a few seconds and not have any idea what you're doing. She'll eventually tilt her head to show that she's confused.]

[Um, okay, he'll try holding his hands up to indicate Sial's size, then he'll draw something in the air that vaguely resembles a cat.]

[Something big? ... But what's he writing out? ... ... ... Horns? Why horns? She's kind of slow sometimes, Emil. Give her a few moments to realize what you're trying to say.

She'll use her hands to mimic cat ears and put them on her head. Are you talking about a cat?]

[Yes! Well, um, not quite, but it's close enough. He'll nod to show that she's on the right track. Have you seen a small cat-thing with wings? He brought it through the portal with him but now he can't find it. :(]

[I totally meant to say small. *fails* But okay! ... So she's gathering that he's looking for someone. Probably a cat, or something similar to it. But... she hasn't seen anything like a cat. So she'll point to herself and shake her head, frowning. Sorry, Emil. :C]

[He droops a bit. Maybe Sial just hasn't made it back to the village yet... but he's gotta be okay, right? Monsters are tough.

[Of course, Emil! ... Only, Noel has no idea what exactly you're looking for, and you suddenly looking upset again makes her frown. She'd like to help with whatever is happening, but she doesn't know what the exact problem is.]

[Well, this inability to communicate is making things very awkward, that much is for sure. Maybe there's no point in even trying, if he can't talk or write. He's starting to worry that he might be stuck like this forever as some sort of punishment for trying to go through that portal.]

[It really is. And so Noel is going to stand there rather awkwardly. Nami told her that according to some, things like this last for a few days, but... that could just be false hope, couldn't it? Or maybe not. She didn't know.

[Out of a sort of morbid curiosity (partly because he's so upset it's verging on hysteria, and were he able to he might just laugh at how damn ridiculous this entire situation is), he barks once, then points at Noel as if asking her what sort of noises she's making now.]
