[Sunset finds Emil trudging back to the village after having spent the previous day and a half trying in vain to break the barrier in an attempt to get Richter and Tenebrae back. He's obviously exhausted, and his shoulders and upper arms are covered in bruises from where he slammed himself against the barrier once he realized hitting it with his sword wasn't going to work. Clearly he's not his usual cheerful self right now; in fact, he seems almost on the verge of tears.

Feel free to run into him as he heads back home.]

[Once more he looks down and nods.]

[Nero sighed, looking into the distance, toward the barrier, and then back at Emil.]

Guess I can't leave a kid alone when he's managed to screw himself over this much. Come on then...let's get you fixed up. There a place you can go to?

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to cause any trouble.

[Drooooops.]

[He shrugged off the apology, not wanting to make it more awkward for the kid or himself. He was starting to feel a bit uncomfortable with the 180 the kid pulled since the last time they talked.]

Not like I had anything better to do. Still...wanna tell me what set you off?

[Better get used to it, Nero; that confidence has a tendency to vanish when Emil gets frightened or upset. It's still pretty fragile to begin with at this point.]

[Nero knew what this felt like. When Kyrie was taken away from him...the anger and pain...he wouldn't wish that on anyone. He held out his hand, hesitated, and then put it on the kids' head.]

For what it's worth...I'd have done the same thing.

[The hand on his head causes him to start slightly and look up at Nero with wide eyes. The only other people who had ever done that to him were Richter and Yuri, and he's a little surprised by this. Not that it isn't welcome; actually, for some reason it makes him feel better.]

I have. And a lot worse too.

Were you trying to get someone back too? Did it work?

I was trying to get back someone really important. Took me a while too but in the end I did it. I failed a lot...weren't my best moments. Just like these aren't yours.

So it's fine if it takes you a while...or if you miss more than you score. In the end, if you want it badly enough, you'll get it...and uh...[Nero scratches the side of his neck, looking away for lack of anything more to say]...shit, I've never been good at this type of stuff.

[He turned to Emil, sighing]

I think I understand... I should keep trying even if I don't succeed at first, because eventually I will... right? And it's worth it if it's someone important to you.

[Sounded better than what he was going for actually. That was...kinda pathetic and spoke volumes about Nero's social retardation. He felt slightly dejected but brushed it away with a smirk.]

Got it in one. Not bad...you'll be okay. I said it before didn't I? Anyone who can switch off like you can is no one to mess with.

[It's okay, Nero, Emil's boyfriend is a social retard too. He's well-versed in being able to read that sort of thing.]

Thanks. I know they'll bring him back because all of his things are still there, and Tenebrae's too. I just... I just have to wait, and be ready to take care of them once they are returned.

[Nero nodded, grabbing the kid by the shoulder and pushing him ahead before deciding it was just more fun ~~and insensitive~~ to give him a shove with the heel of his boot on his rear.]

Good. Now get moving squirt, we gotta patch you up before they get back. I don't want your boyfriend to bitch at me cause I let you walk around like that.

[The shove causes him to let out a startled yelp as he's knocked off-balance. Fortunately, he manages to catch himself before he falls over.]

Oww! W-what was that for?!

[And there's a tiny glimpse of that spunk; he's pouting now, annoyed.]

[Which is what Nero was going for. Not so fun picking on someone who's down and out. Spunky Emil Nero could deal with.]

Just trying to get your ass in gear kid. Man up, you think your friends wanna see you looking like a kicked puppy when they get back?

Of course not. Richter would probably just scold me and tell me to stop moping around.

Then pretend you remembered that five minutes ago and put your head up.

You look down at graves Emil, remember that.

I won't ever let the Malnosso kill him, not even if I have to die myself!
