No, but our worlds are a lot alike. Actually... our pasts were a lot alike too. That's probably why the two of us get along so well.

I see... you both fought because you had to?

[knightofratatosk]

Yeah. And both of us... I guess you could say we were both outcasts in our villages.

[pokeboy]

Oh. [ ohhhhhh. uh. huh. ] I didn't know about any of that -- not from Caius. I didn't really know a lot about back home for him...

[ It sounds like it might not be a thing one would want to speak about either. ]

He didn't really talk about it much. Not that I blame him-- Luceti isn't like that at all. No one here cares about where you're from or what kind of a creature you are. It makes it easy to not think about the things that happened back in your world.

[pokeboy]

[ That last part makes Red tilt his head slightly. ]

Do you like it better here?

[knightofratatosk]

... yeah, I do. I miss my friends, but I'm not sure how much I actually miss my world.

[pokeboy]

[ It's a reason to fall quiet, if just a little. Red never thought about anything like that - a person who would want to stay in Luceti than return... it was an interesting place with interesting people, but it came with such large downsides to it too.

But, more importantly at that moment- ]

Was Caius the same too? [ his lips press together ] Do you think he wanted to stay?

[ Maybe it wasn't worth thinking about or even asking, but he can't hold himself back from wanting to know. Too curious. ]

I don't know. I never really asked him that.

[It's an interesting question, and one a part of him is wishing that he had in fact asked. He knew that, like him, Caius had things he needed to do back in his world, but... he'd seemed happy here. Did he want to stay too?

Now Emil feels a little bad.]

I think he was happy here, though, even if he didn't want to stay.

[pokeboy]

[ He nods, though he isn't sure if it's better knowing the answer.

... but there's nothing that can be done either way. It was what it was: Caius was gone now, and maybe he would be back one day again, maybe he wouldn't. If he wanted to go back, then at least he finally got that.

...Guess I won't have anyone to argue with like I did with him. [ Saying that sort of thing helps, right? ] I really wanted to knock him on his butt in training too. He was helping me practice defence with my staff.

I didn't even know he used a staff.

[That prompts a slightly sheepish laugh on Emil's end, because after having lived with Caius for so long, he feels like he should really know things like that. Then again, given that neither one of them really talked about their past, maybe it isn't that surprising after all.]

Unless you meant you were using a staff and he was using something else.

Right! [ And he's shaking his head, just to dismiss that laugh Emil made. ] I was using a staff and he was using his sword. I started learning to use one here.

Oh! That makes more sense. I didn't think Caius was the type of person who would fight with a staff.

[Let's be real, he is not the most precise and elegant of people here.]

[pokeboy]

You don't think? [ Oh? ] Is there a type? He could've picked it up here!

[knightofratatosk]

I don't know if there's really a type or it's just how I think of things, but I've always pictured staff users as being, I don't know... graceful and elegant, I guess. Does that make any sense?

[pokeboy]

[ Graceful and elegant? Red blinks, thinking about that... and he looks down at himself, before bringing out his arms, turning slightly. ]

What do you think? Am I graceful and elegant? [ He looks between everyone -- what do you two think down there, Pikachu and Hachi? ] Huh?

[Hachi just sort of looks at Red for a moment... and then tilts his head, as if saying "Why are you asking me?"

Emil, meanwhile, just watches him turn, then smiles a bit.]

I could see it! I can definitely picture you using a staff rather than a sword. Actually, I'm not sure I can imagine you using a sword at all.

[pokeboy]

[ Wow, Hachi!!! Pikachu just makes a mocking sound. Like, yeah yeah, ok Red. ]

Me neither. I bet they're useful, but I don't like the look of them... [ His smile is awkward, trying to figure out how to explain it.

But hey, instead- ] What about you? Don't you fight with companions like a trainer? You have Sial!

[knightofratatosk]

[See, even Pikachu agrees with him, don't you "Wow Hachi" him. Not that Hachi really did anything beyond look confused, but it's the principle of the thing.]

Huh? Yeah, Sial and my other monsters fight alongside me in battles back in my world, but I don't really tell them what to do. At least, not most of the time. They usually just fight on their own.

[pokeboy]

Pokémon can make their own decisions in battle too, but I know what you mean. [ Especially if his world was anything like Caius's. ] We leave the fighting to the pokémon.

[ He couldn't imagine people fighting pokémon, not even with training. But he shakes his head, chuckling slightly. ]

But this is a weird chat to have outside a person's doorway. We should probably get going.

Do you want to come inside for some tea or something? I mean, you came all this way just to find out that Caius went home... I feel bad just having you go home without doing anything. It seems like kind of a waste.

[Besides, the house is empty now, so the company is definitely appreciated.]

[pokeboy]

It wasn't a waste, I got to talk to you and Hachi! [ Other than the unfortunate(?) news, that was nice in Red's opinion. ] But sure, we could, if you want to? I don't want to interrupt you or anything.

[knightofratatosk]

[Emil just smiles and shakes his head.]

You're not interrupting at all. I wasn't really doing anything that could be interrupted, anyway. Things are kind of quiet with just me and the animals...

[Naturally, Hachi barks to protest this.]

[pokeboy]

Yeah, I agree Hachi! Who's he calling quiet?

[ Red laughs, bending down to ruffle the little doggy's head before standing back up again. ]

Okay, we haven't anything to do. We just train all day anyway.

[knightofratatosk]

[Hachi barks again and wags his tail, pleased that at least Red is agreeing with him-- mostly because the "not quiet" part is almost entirely his fault.]

That's great! I mean, it's not great that you don't have anything to do, but you know what I mean. Come on inside and I can start boiling some water.
